The BIG chop

So after 30 days of good, bad and just plain fugly hair today we chopped off all our hair to raise money for the Phyllis Tuckwell an amazing hospice that helped our friend Lianne.

Big thanks to Ros Milton for doing this with me. She is and continues to be one of the most awesome people I know.

tumblr_mv6c9fnytK1qbyxr0o1_400

I had not expected to feel as emotional as I did this morning. I mean we weren’t shaving our heads. And in the end it’s just hair, it will grow back.

ronburgundy_emotion

But all week I’d dreamt of Lianne, that we were sat in her old house just chatting about everything and nothing. On Monday it would have been her 32 birthday so doing something like to this to remember her felt like a fitting tribute.

Hair inspiration

We found this ridiculous app on the internet that allowed you to try on different hairstyles and after identifying some hair don’ts, like this Pat Butcher lookalike:

And my lady of the night look

Ros decided she wanted to work the 80’s power bitch bob.

While I was taking my inspiration from Louise Brooks and Daisy Buchanan and opted for a assymetrical bob.

Ros not long for this world hair.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

B-Bye long hair.

We had our hair cut by the lovely Serena at Headmasters and we thoroughly recommend her. She was ace.

During

Within a couple of minutes Ros’ hair had been measured, plaited and chopped off

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Ten inches of plaited hair in total.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

That’s over half her hair gone. To be honest Ros looked pretty hot even with it unevenly chopped off. However as I’m a big tease, you will have to wait a little longer to see her finished look.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA.

Then it was my turn

Sayonnara 12 inches of unwanted hair

With the hair paparazzi including my Mummy, who came in just in time to see my hair go.

I quite liked my plait, I wanted to keep it. Which sort of negates the whole point of donating it to charity.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

IMG-20140104-WA0003

Can I just point out that my plait is longer and thinner than Ros’s #plaitenvy #takethatFreud.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I had my hair coloured as well and wanted to go ginger much to my mothers horror. ‘Darling, nobody chooses to be ginger!’ She said, like it was the equivalent of leprosy. However, I think she quite liked my new colour.

After

Right, drumroll please, introducing the new Mrs Milton (See Ros, I get it right even if the Hilton don’t)

Ros’ verdict:

I love it. I look like I’m a member of Loose Women

Yep in Ros’ world this is a good thing 🙂 I think she looks gorge.

Ready to see mine?

And the new colour contrasting with the old. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s quite short at the back. Eeek! I may need to invest in some scarves and hats.

Day 30 of 30 styles in 30 days: shit hair

How are you doing?

I can’t believe it’s day 30 and this project is almost dunzo.

Ros and I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to *cue stirring Oscar music* : Ruth, Simon, Gillian, Chloe, Debs, Ingrid, Jody, Heidi, Greg, Claudia, Jon, Kat, Hedley, Jojo, Nina, Caz, Alison, Penny and all the January’s, Gary, Greig, Chris, Gabs, Sandie, Tom, Jezza, Angie, Lucy, Martyn, Jack, Dan, Miranda, the other Rowan, Elizabeth, Rachael and the many more including E. Bacon who donated anonymously to such a great cause. Thanks to your unbelievable generosity we’ve exceeded our target. Your comments, suggestions and not so gentle mocking have made this project worthwhile

You are all wondrous souls and I hope 2014 showers you in kittens and chocolate. Or chocolate covered kittens if that’s your ‘thing’, here at 30 days, 30 styles we’re are all about the not judging.

Why are you doing this again?

To raise money for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice a fantastic organisation who helped out our friend and many others in the community.

These blogs have also been a way to keep Lianne’s memory alive. I don’t know what happens after you die but I believe as long as you are remembered, as long as your presence continues to touch and inspire others the ripples never quite fading from view then a part of you remains.

And for all you waiting for the pictures of me and Ros getting the big chop, stay tuned for a very special post on Saturday. And if you haven’t had a chance to donate yet, you can here:

I’m great. I’ve got just one day left of 30 styles in 30 days. And then on Saturday the big chop. I can’t wait to get rid of all this hair! (And then regret it and spent the next two years doing my best to regrow it.)

If this hair had a personality it would be…

Wandering in the alps with a host of goats. Yep this is Heidi hair.

Day 28 of 30 styles in 30 days: Victory Rolls

How are you doing?

It’s New Year’s Eve. I’m running late. And I have no time whatsoever to master one of the biggest hair style challenges in my arsenal. Eeek!

  1. Section off hair
  2. Wet ends of the would be victory roll
  3. Take a strand and roll into a long thin tube until you reach the root
  4. Pin at one end
  5. And the other
  6. Repeat on the other side
  7. Spray with hair spray

How long did it take?

An hour. I am not fucking kidding you

How easy it? Could Rowan do it?

NO. I really couldn’t. My hair tubes/victory rolls kept unravelling. I couldn’t pin them without letting go of the hair and the end result made me look… Well see for yourself

Evidence please…

I am less vintage vixen then a bear wearing lipstick. Yep this look is when you want to look like you have two hair ears on top of your head

How are you doing?

I can’t believe that in just three days, three hairstyles time I will have finished this project. A month seems to have flown by and I’m not sure how I fill the time now I’m not primping/curling/backcombing/washing/styling/researching hairstyles/frakking up hairstyles/and just generally messing around with my hair.

What do I need?

Pins, lots and lots of hairpins

Instructions

Source

  1. Section off hair
  2. Take a strand and roll into a circle until you reach the root
  3. Pin and repeat until all the hair is secured
  4. Leave for a couple of hours
  5. If you want quite tight curls spray with hair spray or a little water and leave to dry.
  6. If you want loose leave as is
  7. Then take the pins out and voila pin curled hair

How long did it take?

15 minutes.

How easy it? Could Rowan do it?

There was much swearing, but I felt I was the kind of broad who would swear so that was in character. Initially I made the curls too small and kept dropping them. Making the loop larger made it easier to roll up
